CCMCF BUILDING PROJECT

In September of 2006, the Calhoun County Medical Care
Facility broke ground on a 69,419 square foot, two-story
building addition to increase the total size of the building to 112,951 square
feet. Although the number of residents served will remain the same at 120, the addition will allow
the community to expand from four private rooms to a total of 88 private rooms. The number of
semi-private rooms will be reduced from 58 to 16.

The community will be adhering to a “neighborhood” concept
with new living areas, and a total of six dining rooms. Nurse’s stations will
be eliminated to create a more “home-like” atmosphere for the long-term care
resident of the future. A large common activity area, a partial basement to
house our own laundry, and additional office and meeting space will also be
added. Each dining room will have an operable kitchen for food preparation and
baking when loved ones come to visit. The entire community will have a fire
suppression system, a wireless nurse call system and wander management systems.

This project was prompted by the Long Term Care Innovative
Design Supplemental Program (FIDS) sponsored by Governor Granholm. An
application for the project, which targets older nursing homes, was submitted in
October of 2005 and acceptance was received in February 2006. The incentive will bring $3.6 million toward the project.
